Double Header
It takes some concentration and skill to pull off a header while getting
head, but this guy seems to have had some practice. Don’t turn this into
an aerial play or you could sustain serious groin injuries.
|
 |
Foot Trap
This is an easy way to stop the ball and get control of the play. The foot
stop facilitates possession of the ball, while elevating one foot in
this position promotes penetration on the field.

Knee It
While not kneeing the ball in the traditional sense, this move is lower
impact and helps develop balance and control by strengthening your core
muscles.
|
 |
Dive for It
Sometimes you have to give it your all and go in for the ball face first.
You’ll come up with some grass stains, and in this case probably some
other stains, but the exertion will be worth it.

The Nutmeg
Nutmegging is putting the ball past an opposing defender by getting it to
go between their legs. It’s a difficult offensive maneuver, but here our
pair is going about it more cooperatively.
|
 |
Backdoor Attack
Sometimes going in the backdoor is the best strategy. The back side of the
goal is often less heavily defended and you can get a chance to score
while the opposition is looking the other way.

Send It Through
Also know as “passing to yourself” – putting the ball past an opposing
player so you can pick it up behind them. In this case, there's not much
else you can do when you have a man (or woman) on you this closely.
|
 |
Neck Trap
Where did that ball go? This is a sneaky way to hold onto the ball while
you’re occupied making other kinds of plays. You could get a foul for
making hand contact, though not with the ball.

Spread the Field
This strategy for scoring is to spread your attack out across the field in
order to open up holes in the defense and allow for deeper penetration.
|
 |
Covering the Goal
When defending the goal, sometimes you have to spread out for the most
coverage. Get centered, stay in the ready position and wait for the
opposition to make an advance.

Getting Goalside
This defensive move refers to positioning your body between your opponent
and the goal he is trying to score in. This player seems to be scoring
successfully nonetheless.
|
 |
Go to Goal
In a breakaway play, you want to get to the goal before the opposing
defenders do. But look out – they’ll be right behind you.

Holding in the Penalty Area
This would definitely qualify as impeding the goalkeeper, but she doesn’t
seem to be minding. Should be attempted only on fields equipped with
professional-quality goal supports.

On Top and Under the Ball
Juggling a soccer ball with your head is one of those tricks everyone
tries to master. The trick is controlling the ball and staying under it.
The rhythmic up and down and side-to-side motions come naturally in this
position.

Nice Save
If the goalkeeper can effectively distract the shooter, he’ll be more
likely to make a bad kick that can be easily diverted. How long the
distraction continues is up to the players.
|
 |
Shoulder Stop
This is a great drill for improving your form. Keeping the ball balanced
on your shoulders keeps the thrusting motion concentrated in your hips
and pelvis.

Chest Reception
Here’s another way to trap the ball. Plus it provides cushioning and
support and gives you a better angle for entry.
